I'll be having extra office hours on Wednesday, 12/5, from 8 until 12. Come by and talk to me about your research. As always, I'm there before class on Thursday, from 9 to 11. (DM)


Formula for paragraphs as discussed in class on 12/4:

.....Paragraph topic sentence = this is what I know as a result of my research (as informed by the research). Source X agrees with me, as evidenced by this paraphrase from his or her work and attributed by a citation (page or par. #). Further elaboration.


HOMEWORK: By the beginning of class on Thursday, 12/6, inform me via email that you have completed Faculty Evaluations.

If you would like to see comments, please email me from your cub address. IMPORTANT: Students who received NG on the Synthesis Essay should contact me as soon as possible (but not during class time). NG essays that have not been addressed in 5 days time (by 5pm on Friday, November 9)will be converted to a grade of F.
Due 10/16: Add your group's definition to the Steampunk page. You may also add Seampunk images you would like to share.
10/9: Changes have been made to the Course Outline document to reflect the correct dates for Fall Break and associated due dates.

It's really important to read the Course Syllabus. You should DO THAT NOW.


The syllabus explains everything you need to know to be successful in that class.
It details what you will be learning and when it will be covered.
It makes clear what is expected of you as a student.
It allows you to know what to expect of your instructor.
It outlines the organization of the course and when assignments are due.
It explains how grading will be accomplished.
It states the attendance requirements.

YOUR FIRST TWO ASSIGNMENTS
ASSIGNMENT ONE: The Scavenger Hunt was distributed on the first day of class and is worth 100 process writing points. It is due August 28. You can also find this assignment here.

ASSIGNMENT TWO: Add your personal page to the Wiki. This assignment is worth 100 process writing points and is due August 31 and September 4.

(Tip: you can keep this instruction page open while performing these operations by right clicking and selecting OPEN IN NEW TAB.)


  1. Click the + symbol next to the Pages and Files link at the upper left column to create your page on the Wiki.
  2. Title your page with your first name and last initial. Use the first name that you want us to call you by (ex: Deb M).
  3. Upload your picture and a short Bio--just whatever you would like us to know about you.
  4. Click SAVE.
  5. Find the link in the navigation bar on the left that corresponds with your class.
  6. Visit that page.
  7. Click the EDIT button at the top right of the page. A menu bar will appear along the top of the page.
  8. Find your name on the page.
  9. Use your cursor to highlight your name.
  10. Click the LINK button in the menu bar along the top of the page.
  11. Click CHOOSE AN EXISTING PAGE.
  12. Select the page you just created.
  13. Click ADD LINK.
  14. Check your new link by clicking VISIT.
  15. Click SAVE in the menu bar.

Very Important Note: ALWAYS check the document or link you have just uploaded. Seriously. A lot of things can go wrong (someone else's essay on your page, etc.)
